What themes run throughout your work? My work is mostly aimed at the children's market, so generally my work is bright and humorous. However, my black and white work tends to be a bit more sinister for the older market.
How do you hope your work will affect its audience? I like to think it will stir some sort of emotion – even it its just a little smirk
What makes you decide to create your work? Usually a commission, but sometimes I do promotional pieces to try and get work in a certain area.
Where do your talents lie? Somewhere deep in the back of my mind
What successes have you had so far? I currently have some work online that I did for the Bromley Biodiversity Project. Also I have recently done a couple of front covers for Tempus Publishing, which are to be released in October. Presently I am working for an international client on the second in a series of short films, aimed at children, about the lives of various historical people.
What was the first creative thing that you ever did? At a guess, something that would have got me into trouble, like drawing on the wallpaper
Has anyone taught you how to use your talent better? Yes. My mother is an artist so encouraged me from an early age. Also I have been lucky enough to be taught by Martin Ursell, Carolyn Dinan and Mary Kuper, all who are established illustrators
What makes you creative? I can see stories about the weirdest of things which make me want to paint and make up little worlds.
How did you get started? I got into illustration after having worked too long as a PA. I realised how much I needed to be able to use my creativity, so I returned to education to set me on the right path.
What inspires you? Everything, but mostly images and nature.
Who inspires you? Various friends and family – oh and occasionally the odd illustrator I guess!
What are you trying to achieve? Self fulfilment in my chosen field and a long list of interesting and varied projects to work on
Do you collaborate? I could do
Ignoring money and all of life’s woes, what would you want to be? An Illustrator
Accepting the need for money and all of life’s woes, what do you want to be? Still an Illustrator
What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen / heard / experienced? Flying to Norway one night to see the midnight sun only to sit in a Sami tent on the top of a mountain, getting choked to death by the smoke. Only to return back to England 12hr after departing. It was all very surreal and the only reason you realised that you'd been (as by now tiredness had lead to possible hallucinations!) was that you stank of bonfire.
What do you consider to be the most important thing in life? Self Respect
