Artist Statement: i have been creating surreal art for as long as i can remember picking up a craola pencil. when i was younger, coming up with strange imagery came very natural to me. for example:one time in college art class we were assigned to paint the life model who we all knew as "naked Brian". because i had sketched him so many times in the same old methodical way i felt tired of the norm. i stared at him for a while until his forehead resembled a bar-code and body twisted into something more alien like whilst the whole figure perched on a swaying tick defying gravity...
from then on i decided i would paint this spontanious thoughts no matter how bizarre!
My artwork often takes a warped view of existing reality. my ideas stream from my automatic thinking so i usually visualise a painting in its entirity before i even get to draw a thumbnail sketch.
i adore surrealism and artists that belong to the bourgeoning lowbrow and pop surrealism movement. to me they are the reigning art lords and the create what i believe is true art. i hope to continue what they have began.
